The Kochi Municipal Corporation was established in 1967, formed by merging the municipalities of Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, and Ernakulam. It is the first municipal corporation in Kerala and governs the city of Kochi, a major port city and economic hub. The corporation has evolved from managing basic civic amenities to handling complex urban challenges including waste management, transportation, and smart city initiatives.
